Sauces And Dressings Retooled For Cleaner Labels
Food Processing - April 2015
Innovative flavors drive category growth for condiments, cooking sauces, and salad dressings, but reformulating for a cleaner ingredient deck is also the order of the day. A mature and stable category, for sure, but Mintel Group research predicts that these categories will grow at a conservative pace (3-5 percent during the next five years), unless there is more innovation. In some cases, further growth will require paying closer attention to the ingredient deck, and in others it will be a matter of meeting the needs of a changing customer base.
Five Consumer Trends Shaping The Food and Food Processing Industries
Prepared Foods - May 2015
Sluggish restaurant traffic growth and stalled sales in the center aisles at grocery stores are evidence that U.S. consumers’ eating behaviors are evolving. The growing influence of Hispanics, Millennials going through life stages, aging boomers, smaller households, and the need for fresh and non-processed foods are among the factors driving the shift in what and how consumers eat, reports The NPD Group, a leading global information company.
The Future of Curry-Flavored Foods
Processed Foods - April 2015
Food product developers are tapping into a growing “curry culture” driven by the expanded culinary influences of Southwest and Southeast Asian cuisines. Rooted in flavorful spices, oils, vegetables and herbs, prepared curry dishes, components and related products are filling retail shelves as never before. Food manufacturers, taking inspiration from such global recipes, are re-imagining traditional foods—including curries—not only from India, but from Pakistan, Indonesia, Malaysia, Sri Lanka and other countries.
Hot Sauce: Ubiquitous In Homes, Foodservice Outlets
Prepared Foods - April 2015
Hot sauce, the hotness of which is often ranked by quantity of flames or symbols of hell, is well… hot right now, says The NPD Group, a leading global information company. Fifty-six percent of households have hot sauce on hand in their kitchens, and Sriracha, a relatively new Asian hot sauce, is already stocked in 9 percent of total U.S. households and 16 percent of households headed by someone under age 35, according to NPD’s recently released audit of U.S. kitchens.
