THE ASSOCIATION FOR DRESSINGS & SAUCES CELEBRATES
THE FLAVORS OF LABOR DAY
(September 2006) ATLANTA, GA – “Before you cover up your grill for the year, gather your friends and conjure up a flavor explosion,” says The Association for Dressings and Sauces (ADS). The Atlanta-based trade association of salad dressing and sauce manufacturers and suppliers to the industry encourages everyone to let their imaginations run wild on the last big grilling holiday of the year.
This Labor Day, hit the grocery store to check out the array of delectable sauces, marinades and dips waiting to tempt your taste buds. With no shortage of tasty and flavorful products available, it’s the perfect time of year to experiment with your outdoor grilling creativity.
There are many ways to turn your grilling not only into a delicious and fun way to cook, but also into a delicious way to eat. To make your barbecue the most delicious it can be, just follow a few basic tips!
- Keep your grill clean - it will cook better.
- Completely defrost meat and poultry before grilling so it cooks evenly.
- Marinate meat and poultry in the refrigerator for several hours or days to tenderize and add flavor.
- Allow about ½ cup of marinade for each pound of food.
- Average marinating time for meat can range from three hours to overnight. Cubed meats for kabobs usually require 2-3 hours.
- Marinating 12 hours or more reduces cooking time by one-third.
- Zip seal bags are great containers for marinating. No clean up is necessary.
- Don’t use the same marinade used on raw food as a sauce while cooking – always use a fresh batch to keep contamination at a minimum.
- Cook food thoroughly, but keep watch to prevent charring.
- Experiment with new flavors of sauces or marinades regularly to keep the excitement in your grilling. Try a barbecue, Asian, or a mustard sauce for a zesty taste.
- Lastly, add fresh vegetables such as tomatoes and carrots to your grilling in the way of kebabs as your grilled masterpiece. Such vegetables are equally tasty served as a side, or your main attraction, and don’t forget to add dipping sauces!
Though the official grilling season may be coming to a close, don’t forget there are many indoor ways to keep your taste buds happy. Try any of the sauces and marinades available while roasting, baking or frying your favorite foods!
