KRAFT FOODS’ POURABLE SALAD DRESSING BOTTLE WITH SIDE CURVES 2008 PACKAGE OF THE YEAR
ATLANTA, GA (October 2008) - The Association for Dressings & Sauces (ADS) named its ninth annual Package of the Year at its Annual Meeting held October 5 - 7 at the Naples Grande Beach Resort in Naples, Florida. The Package of the Year award was given to Kraft Foods, Inc. for their Pourable Salad Dressing Bottle with Side Curves. The 8-oz., 16-oz. and 24-oz. pourable salad dressing contemporary bottles showcase side curves, a flip top cap and clear label. The bottles are made with less plastic resulting in a significant packaging material reduction and improved sustainability. The bottle shape also improves distribution efficiency and allows more cases per truck load. “Kraft is thrilled to have won the ADS Package of the Year Award. What began as a single initiative to contemporize the Kraft Salad Dressing packaging quickly transformed into a multi-faceted reinvention of an entire product line. From packaging to research and development, Kraft teams collaborated across the category to make Kraft Regular and Light Salad Dressings better in more ways than one,” comments David Ervin, Marketing Director, Kraft Salad Dressing. “Our optimized bottle design has also delivered additional sustainability benefits, including improved inbound transportation in efficiency by 18 percent by allowing a greater number of bottles per truckload, and implementation of reusable totes for inbound closures eliminating the need for nearly 4,000 corrugated totes annually.” The Package of the Year award is presented by ADS to increase the awareness of packaging in general and to celebrate the accomplishments of the packaging industry for dressing, sauce and condiment-related packages. Nominations for the award were received and ADS members cast their votes for the package each deemed most innovative during ADS’ April 2008 Technical Meeting.
