2003 Package of the Year
THE ASSOCIATION FOR DRESSINGS AND SAUCES NAMES
The Package of the Year award was given to Unilever Bestfoods for their Hellmann’s Dippin’ Sauce package. This innovative, patented design stands out on the shelf and is the first bottle of its kind in the dressings category that meets the needs of both kids and adults through its unique asymmetrical design that makes it easy to hold. “Consumers love the unique upside-down design that clearly communicates the fun positioning of Dippin’ Sauce and makes the product easy to dispense,” says Mark Olney, Vice President and General Manager, Dressings, for Unilever Bestfoods NA, who accepted the award during Tuesday’s General Session. “The impactful, shrink-wrap graphics accentuate the unique bottle structure while communicating the key uses of dipping and saucing foods.” The bottle structure and label graphics were designed by Vinod Bansal, Group Manager, Packaging Technology and Sharon Reiter Lindberg, Design Manager, Visual Branding Center, both of Unilever Bestfoods, in conjunction with the design firm Interbrand. The Package of the Year award is presented by ADS to increase the awareness of packaging in general and to celebrate the accomplishments of the packaging industry for dressing, sauce and condiment-related packages. Nominations for the award were received and ADS members cast their votes for the package each deemed most innovative during ADS’ April 2003 Technical Meeting. The Association for Dressings and Sauces is an international trade association of salad dressing, mayonnaise, mustard and other condiment sauce manufacturers and their suppliers.
