Facts About ADS

The Association for Dressings and Sauces (ADS) represents manufacturers of salad dressing and condiment sauces and suppliers of materials and services to the industry. Its purpose is to serve the best interests of industry members, its customers, and consumers of its products through a governing body of a 16-member Board of Directors and 11 committees: the Executive Technical Board; the Quality Assurance and Emulsion Committees; the Consumer Awareness/Foodservice Committee; the Supplier Advisory Committee; the Portion Control/Flexible Packaging Committee; Membership Council: the Finance Committee; Nominating Committee; Web Site Committee; and Annual Meeting Planning Committee. Day-to-day administration of ADS is managed by The Kellen Company based in Atlanta, with offices in Washington, D.C., New York, NY, Tucson, AZ and Brussels, Belgium.

The Association maintains an extensive technical and quality assurance program and a strong regulatory and legislative activity which includes assisting members in fully complying with all currently applicable labeling and container requirements. ADS consumer awareness activities are directed to users of industry products -- at home and in restaurants.

Members of ADS meet twice a year. The Annual Meeting in the Fall has a marketing focus while the Spring Technical Meeting program emphasizes technical issues, new product presentations for supplier members, and includes an informal, table-top exhibit called the Information Open House. It is through this non-proprietary exchange of information that ADS members realize some of the greatest benefits of industry collaboration. Working together, competitors find otherwise elusive solutions to tough problems such as emulsion stability, quality assurance procedures, packaging restrictions and microbial safety -- to name a few.

There are several resources, published by the Association, available only to members. The Methods and Procedures Manual provides recommendations for actual testing procedures and quality control methods used in the production of dressing and sauce products. The Quality Assurance Manual is a complete workbook designed to assist dressing and sauce manufacturers in establishing quality assurance programs. It includes a sections on: Food and Drug, Your Rights and Obligations, an overview of FDA enforcement procedures; an updated Labeling Manual to reflect the most current interpretations of the Nutrition Labeling and Education Act; Product Retrieval Procedures and guidelines on Handling Product Tampering Incidents. The Portion Control & Flexible Packaging: A Reference Manual for the Dressings & Sauces Industry provides members with basic information regarding portion control and flexible packaging. The manual serves as a guide for selecting and using packaging materials and equipment in plants. All ADS members also receive a copy of the Membership Directory, which includes a complete listing of every Manufacturer and Supplier with key personnel, plant locations and products and services identified.
